Family Heirloom pistol

My cousin inherited my Great Grandfather’s WWI war trophy.
He was a Canadian Artillery Sgt, and he got a German Cavalry Officer’s Artillery Luger, serial number matched set. Each piece is numbered. Gun, 2 standard magazines, 2 - 32 round snail magazines, and the wooden holster that doubles as a carbine stock.
I inherited his WWI Compass.

Wife’s grandfather passed, I’ve heard about this pistol but finally held it today.

Story goes” it was taken from a dead German soldier during Ww1.” By his father. Anyhow I did a little snooping and it seems like it could be true according to dates.

Astra on the barrel, seems 1911-1915 from what I’ve found. Spanish made.

The proof marks that appear on the left side of the frame above the backstrap tell the story. The middle mark, the 'N' with the little thing above it, indicates this pistol was proofed in 1943. All Spanish pistols went through the same proof house, so any Spanish manufacturer (Astra, Star, Llama) will use the same date code system.
