I can't help but think that the rioting and looting is just an expression of anger about the whole hopeless situation that many of the African-Americans in that community feel. It sounds like Officer Wilson was correct in his reaction to Michael Brown, but the body in the street, the silence for so long from the police chief, the general distrust of that community towards the police is boiling over.

If I felt I was in a hopeless situation where I lived, I would move. No one is making anyone live where they don't want to. There are educational opportunities available based on ethnicity and Affirmative Action programs available to help the disenfranchised become productive members of society.

I felt and saw the same cycle of hopelessness while living in Oakland CA in the late 80s. Poor education, gangs become your new framily, youre living in a high unemployment area with no jobs so it makes it too easy to drift into selling drugs and stealing, drugs and stealing bring violence, prison, more violence, out of jail but still no job propects so back to crime or back to jail because cant get a job because have a criminal record, rinse, repeat. Someone gets smoked by a cop for whatever reason its always going to be the cops fault- because cops are bad people to bad people. Even though theyre putting their lives on the line coming into these bad neighborhoods to try and police them.

You would not understand. I have been around North County my whole life. It is not the friendly community MSNBC told you it is.
But I am probably wrong.

I hope every business that gets this unfortunate fate, cashes in on their insurance and doesn't open back up in that god forsaken town.

I don't think most insurance covers civil unrest, riots, etc. Most small business probably won't re-open.
Regarding my "Christmas minded" comment. The Toys 'R' Us looters may have kept some stuff, but if you're looking for a good pre-black friday deal on toys, I'd check the St. Louis pawn shops.

I'll try some links out for you Biggsly:

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/...cle_946717bd-3c77-55b4-8772-003e4c2c7ceb.html (Just another weekend in North county, before these recent protests)
http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyrft/2013/11/st_louis_homicides_north_city_shot.php (North City, which borders North County, from 2013 but helps enumerate the homicide count)
http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/...tml_9ffe4219-05aa-526d-92a1-3661d6b66842.html (filter 2014, Homicide, and then just punch some of the addresses in Google Maps and see where they tend to plot in the metro area... north verus south, east, or west)

Deep history in redlining:
http://www.stlmag.com/Mapping-the-Divide/ (note this is from 2008!)
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/08/14/3471237/ferguson-housing-segregation/ (a more recent look)
http://mappingdecline.lib.uiowa.edu/map/
http://www.pruitt-igoe.com/ (this was on Netflix last I checked. It in north City, just SE of Ferguson and Florissant)

I spend most of my time in JeffCo when I'm in the area, as that's where my inlaws live. It's a whole other different kind of world from North County. More homogenous, more rural, more meth :D
