I have been 3=4 days trying to find something to stain this forearm to match the back of this Winchester 190 after restock the butt stock. I sanded the forearm down and it looked like a piece of rock maple and about as hard. Yellow as a pine 2x4 and looked like heck. I have tried sumac berries, black jack oak inner bark, coffee, tea and just about everything to try to get it to match. I finally think I got it pretty close or close enough. I really didn't want to buy a can of stain for a 1/2 teaspoon full that will end up hard like the other 50 cans of old stuff in my garage.
The winner is? nails soaked in vinegar in a mason jar and then painted on tinted it just right I think after some stock oil hits it. All down hill from here me Matey's . "If a first you don't succeed, Keep on suckin till you do succeed".--Daffy Duck
