Y3eah, some salesmen say, "you can afford $XXXX.xx in payments so you can afford that car." I tell them, I don't care what the payments are, what is important is the cost of the car out the door. then I'll consider payments.
That is what they are instructed to do
NEVER discuss cost, repeatedly ask "where do you want your payment to be?"
They also don't say how much your trade is worth separately unless you ask and even then they will try to weasel out of saying. I hated the three weeks I spent selling cars with the passion of 1,000 suns. Glad I did it just to learn some of the techniques, but damn that sucked.
