Here, but occasionally There.
Apparently, this dude made the comment on "4Chan" (whatever all that is) and was arrested and extradited to Florida for prosecution.

Not knowing much about 4Chan, I'd assume it may encourage free speech. So, if so, would this arrest and extradition for charges be a challenge to free speech?

And, if so, couldn't some on OSA also be "accused" of doing the same thing? How many times have folks here made comments about "shooting someone" (usually a perpetrator of a heinous crime.)?

Comments?

You don't want to know anything about 4Chan, Terry. It makes the Gutter in the old OKFAO look like a Sunday sermon.

It's very radical and uncensored. Pretty much anything goes there. So, likely, whatever "comment" this guy made about the Florida Sheriff went beyond free speech, and into the realm threats and hate speech.

No no.... by all means go to 4chan. It's a wonderful whimsical bastion of free speech. That it actually is heavily moderated is a different topic I suppose, but whatever. They do fun group activities, talk about vidya and tendies, and all sorts of fun things.

That said, they are nothing like us. When people here make comments about wanting to shoot people or commit harm to others it's okay, because a few posts later someone will inevitably say "they weren't serious they were just blowing off steam". That makes it okay. Well, when it's coupled with the fact that they aren't good upstanding people like us. They are the ruffians and lawless people so that makes it okay.

As of today, the threats are a crime. The "hate speech" is not.

There are organized groups that are trying desperately to outlaw speech they disagree with. Oddly enough, they seem to have something in common with other "progressive" groups.

But I'm not noticing anything, no sir.

I seem to remember a time when criminal cases required meeting the burden of proof on the basic elements? Motive, means and opportunity back then, mens rea and actus reus now (along with one of several other subordinate elements currently available).

By that I mean did he actually have the intent and means to go and kill the sheriff? Did his words written on the internet incite the sheriff to commit a crime?

Some unemployed basement dwelling cretin spouting off on the internet from seven states away doesn’t seem like a crime worthy of extradition. JMO, YMMV

But... If it saves just one life, won't it be worth it?
