The press didn't "turn into disgusting animals". They already were, and still are. They're worse than most politicians.
So he retired from Senate in 2023.

I don’t know anything about the late senator, but the fact that the press seem to hate him and are basically attacking him in death makes me believe he did something right. Rest in peace, sir!
