We will be going back to Gulf Shores Al next year for awhile. The pier that hurricane Sally destroyed a few years back has been repaired and back in service.
So, started looking around for a pier gaff to get big fish up on the 30’ tall pier. $200 was the cheapest found.
$40, Amazon, and a few hours of time got this ready to weld.

Not my prettiest weld job, but it will get the job done. (It’s actually bigger than the pic makes it appear.)

Nice! I know the pier you’re talking about. We’ve been to gulf shores. Did lots of fishing while there. Great fishing opportunities to be had even without getting a guide or having a boat. Time of year obviously has big effect on what species you be able to catch.

That big gaf should work. I saw people using those round dip nets on rope to get fish up.

Correct. The nets are for the pompano and smaller fish. Hoping for some kings, but the time of year may make that tough. Gotta watch out for the reds. Can't gaff the big bulls if one is already in possession.
