Okay folks....I need some diy help. I have a garbage disposal but I never use it because I've seen what plugs up the drainpipe when you do. I thought I was running it often enough but I guess I got lazy. Now the disposal has jammed or rusted and the blade won't turn. How can I free it up? The motor is trying, I can hear it humming but no grinding.

Look on the bottom of the disposal. There should be a hex head hole in the center. Find the proper hex head (it's gonna be a big one) and turn the disposal manually while the disposal is off.

Same thing happened to me...just needed a little moving to get it back running.

There should be a hole in the bottom that a big allen wrench will fit into. Usually a twist or two with a wrench will get it going again. Your mileage may vary.
