It's off the usual path, but it's worthwhile for the architecture alone: the Mormon temple in Silver Spring, MD. I've never been in it (and I lived there for three years), but just driving by on the Beltway is amazing, especially if you go at night.

I know a joint one block north of the White House...all nude and they serve pretty good chicken sandwiches too...

Marine Corps Museum just south of DC, and the Fish Market right close to Vietnam Memorial.

Marine Corps Museum near Quantico was a highlight of my trip to DC a few back. Very nice. The Holocaust Museum is very well done as well. After seeing a lot of the newer interactive museums, I wish they would update the Air Space Museum. I was there in 2008 and it appeared to be very dated compared to a lot the new museums.

Oh and make a trip down to the waterfront for some fresh seafood.
I've been to D.C. many times and eating fresh seafood is a must.
