Took a shot yesterday morning at a good sized doe from about 55 yards with my crossbow, sounded like the arrow hit a concrete wall and basically was deflected off the shoulder of the beast..... Hair on the arrow and a broken tip. Worse part of the deal was I got @JYoung out of his tree stand to help look for her. I promised I would work on my aim and we called it a day.

Dang! Was the beast quartering away from you for the deflection?
I'm deadly at 50 yds with the Xbow at a target, but restrict my animal shots to 30 yds or less. I don't know why, but it's probably from the old longbow days that don't happen anymore. Doesn't sound like accuracy was the problem. What broadhead? Tell JYoung hello for me.

I think it kind of sat back/ducked back a bit when I shot, I was higher than her and between the angle and her flinch it was not a happy ending. The broadhead was a mechanical two blade and will be the last mechanical I ever use!! I will tell JYoung howdy in the morn as we head out to slay the beasts...

Seems like there's been several mechanical failures this season already. What brand is everyone shooting that's giving issues? I've used Vortex forever out of my compound and some with xbow with no issues. Still use fix blade out of my traditional bows.

I was using a 3 blade fixed and my shot was only about 10 yards. She was about perfect broadside. The arrow went in behind the shoulder and was a complete pass though. What was weird is, I got down and the arrow is not there. When I got to her and roller her over, the exit was FURTHER back on the other side. I found my arrow but it was 30-40 yards from impact and not on the trail she took.
Did the arrow deflect enough off a bone or something to literally turn it in her and still have enough energy to exit?
My son questioned me over and over because the entry and exit looked completely backwards.

I've driven just under 700 miles since Saturday, but will be home in an hour and have hopes of actually waking up tomorrow to get to the stand. Anybody else planning on braving the wind to enjoy the temperatures?

Good luck. I'll be on a tractor in the morning.
