I just got off the phone with a friend of mine, who is GRDA Lake Patrol. He said that they have always had the right to pull over and ticket anyone in an area where they have stations, subs, etc (which is most of Oklahoma). He said they (LP) were never pressed to deal with traffic violations, until recently.

They have a new chief (or whatever they call him), Brian Edwards who was the former under sheriff of Tulsa County. In Tulsa, they often saw it fit to engage in policing functions normally overseen by TPD, especially in the areas of gang enforcement and narcotics, and especially in the north side of the town based on my anecdotal observations. Outside of the City of Tulsa, there was even talk of the Sheriff absorbing the local police forces (Jenks is an example I can recall).

Appears this approach has spread followed the leadership to the GRDA.

Sounds like a good deal for everyone out that way... Nothing says get of my county to a criminal like flashing red/blues! And at no increase in taxes? Even better... Their probably like the sheriffs offices though, they write district tickets so they end up with like 5.00 a ticket so it's really not about revenue..
