I’ve been called 4 times. Once for federal. I filled out the paperwork and sent it in as required. I forgot completely about it but received my summons a year later. It’s a totally different thing from county duty. The chairs are all padded and rock/swivel😂
On a more serious note, I was asked each afternoon what I would like for breakfast. The food was good. Doughnuts all the time and a fully stocked snack bar. The pay was better too.

I do, but it was a long time ago and probably depends on what district court you are in.

We reported for an orientation. Then, best I remember, we called a phone number every Friday to see if our name was on a list to report Monday. Sometimes they would send you home Monday morning, sometimes you would go into a court room as part of the jury pool, and they would interview random candidates until they had their jury seated. That might take multiple days.

Then you either went home, or served on the jury.

I want to say it was for three months. They paid x number of dollars for every day you went in regardless of how long you had to stay, and mileage, and I think parking. Sweet deal for me, I was in an outside job, it was summer, and every time I went to court I got the stipend on top of regular salary and didn't have to work in the heat. I did sit on two juries though. It was fun and interesting.... until deliberations. This world would be SOOOO much better if everyone just thought like me!!

Yep I've been tagged also. Gotta go back July 15. I got out of it in May due to wife being out of state with her brothers surgery. I've driven over to the courthouse 3 times on my own dime. I have no confidence in our legal system. I've been through workers comp court so I know someone is a lying.

I was a court bailiff for our city court for years. One of my day shift duties. After LE career, I have been called 4 times. After they find out I'm retired LE, that's it for me. Federal court jury duty is a whole nuther ball game. Don't even try to take a small pen knife in. I was an alternate on a stupid army private that brought home an M203. He finally pleaded guilty and I didn't have to serve. I was still in the pool for a year but was never called again.

This last go round a few years ago, I was told I will never ever be called again because by the time it rolls around again, I will have aged out.

If I remember correctly.
Federal grand jury is presented with evidence. The grand jury determines if there is sufficient evidence to indict a particular party on the listed federal charges. The jury votes to indict or not. Once that is determined the federal prosecutor office issues the indictment. The federal court trial is a separate thing.
Some cases are ongoing for before and after the year of jury duty. So you may hear testimony at the beginning or the middle or the end of a particular long case.
They take their time because they want to make sure they get something to stick.
A felony that crosses state line becomes federal.

Interstate Underage child exploitation.
Hold up a bank insured by the FDI.C.
Counter fitting currency.
Drug traffic across state lines.
Interaction with the other jurors gave me an interesting picture of cross section of humanity.
Valid opinions every one.

The best social studies class I ever had.

I can't remember which movie or comedy sketch. Richard Pryor said "Thank God we got Penitentiaries"

Feb 2022 I got summoned to Federal for Eastern OK. I don't know if it is still like this, but back then there was such a backlog from the McGirt ruling that we had to report to the OKC federal courthouse. First time ever having Jury duty and got stuck on a 2nd degree murder trial. Whole thing from jury selection to verdict was three and half days.

Since the whole jury was from the eastern OK court area, most of us were eligible for hotel money.
