I brought it home today.

I'd reckon most of us old timey blackpowder shooters would recognize it, not sure about the folks that shoot that newfangled smokeyless stuff.

And probably anyone what ever worked in a lab will know what it is.

It's actually a cork boring tool. Hanging on the side are different sized hollow core cutters, used to bore holes through cork stoppers, so glass tubing etc, can be inserted through the hole.

I'm gonna use it to cut felt wadding for use in cap and ball revolvers, .44-40 blackpowder loads, and .410 shotgun wadding. The largest may cut wadding for 20 gauge, haven't measured it yet.

We were cleaning out some old cabinets in the lab when I found it, gathering lots of dust. I asked the boss, "Can I keep it?" and he said "Sure, it's obvious it's never been used here."

Interesting. When I worked in the crude lab we had some stacked tubes that were beveled on the end you just shoved through the corks and stoppers. There were 10 or so different sizes and they stored neatly stacked on inside the next.
