Looking for a gunsmith knowledgeable with Ruger pistols. Preferably the “speed six”. I’m having issues where it will operate with no issues then it will completely lock up…. You can be shooting it with no problem then all of sudden it will lock up….. completely… nothing will move, the trigger, cylinder, the cylinder release, the hammer. I have to fight with it to get the cylinder open. Doesn’t do it with an empty cylinder. I’ve used David in Stillwater but trying to avoid a 6 hour round trip drive. Hoping to find a competent gunsmith a little closer. Looking for some advice if anyone wants to put in their two cents. Thanks

How's the forcing cone to cylinder gap? Maybe closing up when metal heats up? Just something I read when looking around interweb on my security six. Good luck and hope it's an easy fix!
The forcing cone looks good. I can see a little space between it and the cylinder. I’ll shoot some rounds later today and see if anything changes with the gap between the two. No crud behind the extraction star. I’ve been shooting.38sp’s so the loads should not be too hot.

Fired 6 rounds and loaded 6 more rounds. After firing the third round the cylinder locked up tight. I got to looking and I believe the cylinder is pressing against the forcing cone. I had to take a small rubber mallet and tap o the side of the cylinder to open it. Guess now I need to find a gunsmith close to Ada.

How does the cylinder feel with shaking? End shake can cause it to do it with loaded rds. Sorry I can’t help with any smith in your area. Maybe get ahold of Murry State teachers in Tishamingo and see if they can help.

Cylinder seems to be OK. I checked it against some of the other revolvers I have and I don’t think it’s any different. I don’t recall the instructor’s name and he probably isn’t even still there at Murray State but he did some work for me several years ago. He had a shop at his house near Bromide. I’ll have to check and see who’s there now.
