I have owned both the tc encore and h&r single shot. still have both the h&r's but the encore I let go. barrels are expensive and recoil on the tc can be bad depending on the caliber. if you go with h&r look for the SB-2 reciever. they can handle rifle shotgun or muzzleloader calibers so should handle pistol as well. the sb-1 will only handle shotgun or pistol.

I build barrels for the H&R rifles all the time.

I can do over 100 different cartridges in the H&R as barrel stubs, or do no less than half that many as barrel inserts by using a 12 ga. shotgun barrel that has been fitted to a rifle receiver. Cartridges like the 327 Federal, 7X30 Waters, 257 Roberts, 250 Savage, 40 S&W, 45 acp, etc., are all very popular in the H&R.

I've got a couple H&R 12ga with a barrel sleeve to shoot darts for doctoring cattle. They've got a drop in plug so the dart is propelled by a .22 cal charge like a concrete nail gun uses. The green power level works best for us. I realize this isn't exactly what y'all are talking about but just sharing other things that are handy about break over shotguns.
