The reason I asked is most haven't picked one up by the tail or seen someone pick one up by the tail. Doing so you get to see what it actually means for them to play opossum. They curl up a little and play dead.

All I've ever seen was the hissing and claws. I also hear they're not so good eating. Lol

I've watched a possum go "dead" in a hurry when surrounded by my five dogs. It doesn't move a muscle even when I go up and nudge it with the toe of my boot, so I'm half convinced it's dead. Then I call the dogs away and move off some distance, and wait. Sure enough, after a minute or two the critter will get up and walk away.
