What do you guys think of an Oklahoma Handgun Hunting Season? Think it's possible the state might allow for something like a 3-day HANDGUN ONLY hunting season or am I just dreaming?

I have handgun hunted in several other states and enjoy the heck out of it. With guns like my Ruger Super Blackhawk, out to 125 yds., you give up nothing to a rifle and it's alot easier to pack through the woods. Deer or hogs either one have nothing good to say about this gun ;)...

Of course there are handguns like the T/C Contender, Encore, XP-100, MOA Maximum, Ruger Super Redhawk and on and on...

What do you think....

My 629 wears a Burris Fastfire as seen here:

[Broken External Image]

The last time I had it out I got it sighted in at 100 yards. I have plans to use it for hog hunting, but have been fairly busy ever since I got it sighted in.

I'm sure it would be just fine for deer as well I just, thus far, haven't enjoyed eating any of the deer I've had all that much and as such haven't had much interest in hunting them.

I've also got a 6" 686+ that I've been intending on scoping for possibly the same use but I have some concerns about using a .357 out to 100 yards on largish game.

Is that BlackHawk re-barreled or did they make them with a compensator?

Edwards,

those are some beautiful weapons you've got there and I really like the 629 with the Burris FastFire...

I bought the Ruger Super Blackhawk - 44 magnum shown above, with a 10 1/2" silhouette barrel. I shortened the barrel to 9" and then added the brake to the barrel to take it back out to 10 1/2" in overall length...

I adjusted the trigger to a very crisp 34 oz., closed the barrel to frame gap to .003, drilled/tapped the frame for the scope base, rethroated to a Taylor's throat, etc., etc....

I have not seen it posted but, are we allowed to post "load data" over here on the forums?

My favorite 44 magnum load pushes a Remington 240 gr. JHP bullet to 1,600 fps. and will keep all 6-shots inside a 3" circle at 100 yds. when fired off a bench...

Recoil wise, this gun has a lot less felt recoil than your S&W 686 and needless to say, it is a lot of fun to shoot, carry and hunt with....

You did such a clean job of it, I couldn't tell there was a seam on the barrel between it and the muzzle brake. That's a good looking gun for sure.

Your right about the recoil, this Smith is a handful, particularly when trying to put a whole box through it. I've seen the Super BlackHawk Hunter models and have wanted one for a while, just can't decide between one of those or a 657 .41 mag. There is a full lug, 7.5 incher with unfluted cylinder on Gunbroker right now I have thought about bidding on as it would be a good match to the rest of my pistolas.

I haven't read anything on the contrary about posting loads, people post loads all the time in the reloading forum. I don't reload so I can't offer anything, but I'm expecting a whole load of RCBS stuff for Christmas from my parents.

Thank you...

Here is my favorite 44 magnum load for when you get your "Christmas presents" -

CASE: Star Line nickel plated 44 magnum...

PRIMER: CCI-350 Magnum Pistol...

POWDER: Winchester 296 / 24.0gr...

BULLET: Remington 240 gr. JHP...

VELOCITY: 1,400 to 1,600 fps., depending on gun and barrel length...

I have used the above listed load in every 44 magnum that I have owned. Ruger Super Blackhawk, Ruger Super Redhawk, Ruger GP-100, S&W 29 and S&W 629....

The last one I took was with an HK USP 45. In fact, I have never taken a shot that I could not have used a 44 mag on. I like thick PITA places for some reason.

And yes that is one Bada$$ Super Blackhawk

Nice hand cannon.

As far as the handgun only season, why not just use it during our current modern firearms seasons. You have 26 days to hunt with a handgun now.

I would be all for more opportunities to hunt but not for handgun only, archery hunting should not be excluded.
