Yep, $50 an hour is $2000 a week @ 8 hours a day. More than I currently make as an IT engineer. A bit tough to swallow for an old cheapskate.
Yeah it's more than I make too at my desk job. But I guarantee the full cost of your compensation package is much more. I'm guaranteed 40 hours a week, paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, medical, dental, vision and a bunch of other things and I'm not risking my neck or dealing with nearly the unique hassles as I did remodeling or handyman stuff.

Sounds like you have much better benefits than myself.

In OK, is there a 'rule' for when handyman work becomes plumbing or electrical work? Can a handyman set a toilet? Replace a ceiling fan or a plug? Just curious if there's a rule of thumb for where the line is?

Sorry for hijack, but seems like it was meandering anyway..
I think it's pertinent. I did everything there was to do. Take a house that looks like it needs bull dozed and walk out with it looking and working perfectly. Large electrical stuff I would have an electrician check and make final connections. I can install a new panel no problem but it's not smart for safety reasons. So I don't think there is a line. Just have to make sure someone isn't making something unsafe. But ceiling fans, setting toilets, all manner of plumbing, usually a good handyman does that all day and easily.

Yeah I know they do a lot of the work, just wondering if they are in danger of getting their pee pee slapped.

Keep in mind doing this type of work it’s not the same as making $50 an hour at an actual corporate job.

No paid vacation, no sick days, no insurance, doing taxes is a royal pain in azz, no guarantee to get 40hrs a week every week, potential for occasional confrontation and trouble getting paid, have to pay for Worker’s Comp. if you want a helper/employee, tool and truck maintenance, and so on… it’s definitely not as good as it sounds lol

Only when you’re inside of city limits that are strict about code enforcement. Stuff in rural areas it’s whatever goes.

For example, I won’t touch stuff like that in Norman. But my farmers out near Calumet. Hell, yeah.

I'll send you a pm with my companies info. I have seen job listings for IT. And if you get hired I'll get paid! I have a low position and can't do anything on the hiring side of IT but who knows, could work out.
