Never said I did not like term limits, I just said, for example, the people of Nevada could have term limited Dingy Harry, but they did not. We have no say in their election.

I would not want to see Tom Coburn get term limited out before his work is done. Legislated term limits cuts both ways. Lots of the Obama health care voters were term limited out of office by their voters. I think voting them out of office is the way to go.

But what do you do with the Byrds, Kennedys, Reids, Pelosis, Kerry's and other career politicians? They're not voted out because of the power they hold, or the corruption they conceal. they buy these offices every election. That's not even a secret any more.
Congress was never meant to be a career, it was a public service. Do your time then go home. Live under the laws you passed. No golden parachute retirement, no special health care. Do your service and go home.

Even Coburn knows that. He promised two terms and he would retire. He has one more term to hold his promise. let someone else in there.

Why limit the president to two terms?

Coburn went to congress in the 1994 republican wave and stayed until 2000.
He pledged to serve no more than 3 consecutive terms in the house.
He went back to the senate in 2004, so even if he keeps his pledge, we're talking 18 years total in the house and senate.

We're talkin 18 years.

FDR did 16 years and the constitution was amended over it. :rotflmao:

My bad. I was being succinct in my comment. Originally he promised 2 terms in the house and he would leave. He did just that.
Then he ran for the senate and I thought he said 2 terms there as well.
The reason he limited himself is because even he believes in term limits.

My apologies for the lack of verbosity.
