I didn’t get a picture, but I killed a pack rat using my thermal last night. He was trying to rebuild a nest in a doghouse after I cleaned it out. He didn’t appreciate getting hit with one of my handloaded turkey shells.😳
Funny. I took out this coyote with my thermal this weekend. 6.8 SPC at 75 yds.

The next evening, I was sitting on the porch and the dog kept looking around the corner of the cabin. I grabbed the thermal and could see a heat signature in the brush. Snuck up on it to find it was an armadillo rooting along the side of a log. I didn’t get a picture but I’ll tell you that the 6.8 SPC at point blank range will blow an armadillo clean in half.

If I wanted a “hunting” caliber for an AR, a 6.8 spc would be my choice. :thumb:

I actually put that particular rifle together with the thermal scope for hogs. I’ve killed a lot of beavers, armadillos and coyotes with it, but have yet to shoot a hog.

I liked it so much that I built a sister rifle but with a traditional scope. 120 gr Hornady SST’s are the best I can find to shoot out of it.

I’ve had pigs coming in just before or just after dark for the last couple days, so I took the thermal out tonight and only saw 5 deer and 2 masked bandits from my ground blind. I sat until my bladder made me get up which was about 8:15, and I decided I had all the fun I could stand for one day. On the way back to the truck, I was taking a few steps and scanning, take a few steps and scanning, and I was about halfway there when I saw a couple bedded deer to my right and a pig moving through the brush to my left. The pig was in some think stuff about 50 yards away, and I had to go into stealth mode to get around him for a shot. He was moving towards me, but the wind wasn’t in my favor. When he was about 75 yards away and moved into an opening between a couple trees, I took the shot, and the 110 grain 308 load dropped him. He flopped a couple times and was done.
