Turbocharged boxer engines from Subaru have never been known for fuel economy, but they have been known for eating bearings. Porsche seems to be the only one that can make a 2 piece block that will stand up to forced induction.I will never get a turbo car again. I had a 2005 turbo outback and it required premium gas and the milage was not very good (less than 20mpg). My 2017 Outback gets about 25 mpg and goes more than fast enough. Also, a blown turbo cost me more than $1000.
I thoroughly enjoy the power delivery of a turbocharged engine, if the turbo(s) are properly sized for the application. Also, there arent a lot of performance biased engines that dont require 91 octane. Honda and VW are the only two from my recent memory that do not and it shocked the hell out of me.
