what if their gun or guns have historical value? What if ammo is no longer manufactured for said gun? What if the gun has never been fired and means something special to them? What if they bought the gun for an investment?

The one-upper. No matter what you buy, it is not as good as his. When you ask what is a good 22lr, 22mag, deer rifle, shotgun, revolver, semi-auto, AR, AK, bb gun, rubber band gun, ........... The answer is always what ever they own.
