"If every man has the right of defending, even by force, his person, his liberty, and his property, a number of men have the right to combine together to extend, to organize a common force to provide regularly for this defense...

... Nothing, therefore, can be more evident than this: The law is the organization of the natural right of lawful defense; it is the substitution of collective for individual forces, for the purpose of acting in the sphere in which they have a right to act, of doing that they a right to do, to secure persons, liberties and properties, and to maintain each in its rights, so as to cause justice to reign over all." ~ Frédéric Bastiat

So, if the individual has a natural right, then individuals combined also have the same right. However, in the US, the law that so many here obey does absolutely nothing to affirm the individual's natural rights, but instead, subvert the individual's natural rights for that of the collective. And this is exactly what Bastiat meant in the first paragraph of his work, The Law,

"The law perverted!... The law become the tool of every kind of avarice, instead of being its check! The law guilty of the very iniquity which it was its mission to punish!"

Law abiding? Laws that benefit the political elite only. And do absolutely nothing for the individual. I'm still waiting for anyone on this forum to provide moral authority to the right of the collective under the force of law to steal a man's property each payday and give it to elites and the tools they employ (teachers, police, dogcatcher, etc) via redistribution... likely will wait a long time. This nation is populated by intellectual midgets...

What crime carries a penalty that is worse than the consequences of not having your gun when you need it?
My thoughts exactly. I would rather go to jail and my family be safe rather than leave my gun in the car and they die. Just makes sense to me. These stories are proof positive that it doesn't matter where you are this crap can happen.
