We have cops, firemen, and soldiers on this board. We have guys who work in power plants and linemen whose jobs have to be done 24/7. I worked many a holiday as a young man and never thought much about it. Walmart? People at Walmart aren't doing anything important. They're not doing anything vital and they're not making much money doing it. Retail? If I had a job at WalMart I'd show up for sure, but would that make me the equal of a cop or a soldier? Most people would say no. RETAIL? Plan ahead. Buy your bobbles and beads before and after the holiday.

No sympathy from me. Being self-employed, I get no days off. If someone calls on any given holiday, depending on the severity of their problem, I will be there. I worked Christmas Eve last year at a restaurant in Owasso that was also open, but had no lights in their kitchen. During the first ice storm in Tulsa a few years ago we worked both Christmas Eve and day trying to get peoples power back on for them. Sad thing is, now looking back, working all the time helped to cause the divorce I am going thru now.

I'll be babysitting inmates on Thanksgiving instead of spending it with my family. Of course, I'll be making about 4x as much as the Walmart employess but you don't see me bitching about it.

Dept. of Correction, here. Thankfully, I've put in my time and get the holidays off, but I sure remember working them! Hell, I had to work dec. 31st 1999 on midnight shift. Had to be there at 11:30pm. Talk about missing a hell of a party...

I keep seeing this one Facebook posted from pro-military pages:

While I understand the whole "slap in the face" aspect, I can't help but think that one of the primary goals of our military forces is to protect the rights of all citizens, one of which being the right to protest. While the military doesn't have to agree with the reasoning behind the protests, they should appreciate the fact that these people are still allowed to protest thanks to their efforts and sacrifices.

I volunteered to work Thanksgiving, but our project is 24/7, so if not me, then someone else is pulled away from their family.
