I just saw a new kind of "no guns" sign yesterday.

I allow open carry in my business and while I am not afraid, nor does it make me uncomfortable, I have guests that will be uncomfortable. Some of these folks have lived in this area most of their lives and they know "Jimmy or Bobby" from down the street who is the biggest knucklehead this side of Shawnee. He comes strolling in with his 1911 (condition 1) in a duty rig and they don't want to sit or stand next to him. I understand both sides of the discussion in this thread. Possibly people need to look at things from both sides. We won the fight but the war isn't over just because it is November 1st.

You can bet people notice when you're open carrying. It makes a lot of them uncomfortable. They have no idea who you are or why you're carrying a gun and not wearing a uniform. I'd probably think you were a whack job of some sort and call 911 reporting a man with a gun.

Open of wild becarry was passed with the intent that people could open carry where it was necessary. Such as in the woods while in the midst asts. It was also passed so that if you are a CCW carrier and accidential expose your pistol you wouldn't be in violation of current law.

With the comments displayed by the open carry crowd towards those who choose to disallow it I see nothing but bad written all over this thing. I suspect that by the next legislative session this open carry bill will be amended.

There is no need to open carry in the produce aisle of WalMart or at the skee ball machines in Chuck E Chesse.

I beg to differ, Open carry was passed because it is our right per the 2nd Amendment. I am not going into a long rant but I read Gov. Fallins quote and it said nothing about in the woods etc...
There are plenty of wild beast on the city streets too!

What an ignorant thing to say. What's your business name, by the way? And where is it located? I want to be sure I never patronize you.

Surely you meant to say that you support the 2nd Amendment, but that as a private business owner you feel it necessary to restrict open carry on your premises? Because if you truly mean you support the 2nd only when and where you're comfortable doing so, well, that's just ignorant.

^ That is how I feel. The original question was an attempt to have me go on the defense, and homie don't play that. I will apologize for nothing. (except the occasional troll)

As many of my daily customers conceal carry, and share a like opinion on my stance of open carry, I will not permit open carry in my place of business. Mainly, because my inside my bait and tackle shop rests a beer bar. As guns and alcohol do not mix ever, I will not permit the displaying of firearms along side said bar.

Prominently displayed on their door was a sign that said "No Guns allowed unless in accordance with Oklahoma Concealed Carry laws."

Is that just their way of saying no open carry?
Isn't that the sign L&H Plumbing has on all their locations? I remember a discussion about that a year or a year and a half ago. I believe it was to let people know that they welcomed customers who had (at the time) the CCH permit to carry in their stores. I believe it was worded the way it was to remind the uninformed that there was a law in Oklahoma granting citizens the right to carry concealed. If I am right, it just means they haven't updated the signs to reflect the new law that went into effect today.

Like I said, concealed is welcome. Open carry patrons will be asked to conceal, or leave. It isnt a matter of whether it makes me nervous, it doesn't. I am however worried my non-2A customers would be put off/be uncomfortable by those who openly displaying their firearms. Simple numbers...

By far more citizens either conceal, or do not carry at all. Very few will openly carry. Unlike Washington, I refuse to sacrifice the many, just for a few.

Just curious, do you think if a few of your customers out of however many might see someone open carrying in your store during maybe 1 out of 5 visits, they will associate your store with the wild west and this crazy notion that someone might have the legal right to carry a firearm openly and thereby NOT placing a no open carry on the door they will blame you and that they will stop visiting your store? Or do you fear that if you let one in, that every open carrying lunatic will flood your store and run off business. Or do you not think more of your customers that they might put the blame on the person open carrying instead of your business. When I go to a store and see someone acting rediculous for whatever reason, I have never once even thought, how could this store let these people in, no I blame the person who is acting stupid drawing attention to themselves. Oh, and I have still gone back to do business with them again.

I will not permit open carry in my place of business. Mainly, because my inside my bait and tackle shop rests a beer bar.

This brings on a different angle, but your sign says that concealed carry is permissable, some of your customers should be smart enougth to think that your conealed carriers might be at the beer bar, shouldn't you just put up a no guns sign for the smart people? I hope that doesn't come off sounding as bad as it reads, I'm not trying to harrass you.

Twoforflinching has a right to run his business how he wants.

I agree with this. I can't help though, even knowing that there is a fallacy embedded here, mentioning that SOMETIMES, mainly in the 1960's, businesses have been FORBIDDEN by the Feds from excluding customers who made other customers "uncomfortable".

I open carry at the retail store I manage. As does one other employee. The store isn't affiliated with hunting or frearms or any sportmanship in the such.

Our daily, weekly, monthly and yearly income is the same. The only people who have asked about my firearm were two kids and the regulars who like to hang out and chit chat. Otherwise, I still see the same faces and new faces. No one has made it obvious they were uncomfortable and neither does our income.

I think if you are decently dressed, and wear the gun as if you own it, most people will probably think you're a cop anyway.
