get ahold of a CIII dealer and see if he can hold onto it so you dont get caught with it.Have that dealer start you some paperwork for a tax stamp and transfer.I don't know how not having the previous owner around to transfer it to you will work.It might just end up being contraban.:anyone:

You can have the serial number run against the registry to see if it's registered and go from there, but long story short, no. If it's registered, you'd have to have it transferred to you (and pay the stamp(s)) from the registered owner. If it isn't registered, it will have to be turned in or destroyed per AFT guidelines.

If it's a machinegun, I'd definitely have it checked. If otherwise, destroyed is probably the best bet.

I would think that if the transfer isn't possible - you've have to destroy the full-auto components.
Wouldn't that be the lower components only?

Then you keep everything else for a cheap semi-auto build?
(I'm uneducated on this - just asking)

Yes. You can chop or cut the serialized part (in two places IIRC), take clear, detailed photos that include the serial # and send them to BATFE as evidence that it's been destroyed. The rest of the parts are yours to keep. For instance, on an FN-FAL, the part that has to be destroyed is the upper, not the lower.
