If it is registered, I'd try to get it back to the owner before I'd destroy it, especially if it is a machine gun. There are a limited number of transferrable machine guns and I'd hate to see one destroyed.

It appeares that the OP was being hypothetical, but whether it was or was not just a "what if" question, he should be prepared for some sort of inquiry. My advice would be like many others here. Stay within the law.

Again, if it was just "what if," it still may stir up interest from the Feds.

What ever happened to good ol' finders keepers? Gotta say if I stumbled across something like that after buying a storage unit & it was in working order I'd keep it. You did pay for ALL contents in said storage unit & whatever you get is for you to know & everyone else to wonder about IMO anyway.
