Andrew Johnson was a Republican.

In all fairness though, that was nearly a hundred years before 1964, so you might as well call him a Democrat.

Edit: Kopbet is right, Johnson WAS a Democrat. Ran on the same ticket as Lincoln the Republican. I think that's a unique situation.

It begs the question though, who was the only president to resign because he knew he was about to be impeached And convicted?

Barry Goldwater walked into the oval office in August of 1974 and he gave the president the LowDown.

"There are at least 18 votes in the Senate to save you, and I'm not one of them."

What President was he talking to?

Yes, I knew it was satire. Got it from a friend who didn't.

Impeachment and removal from office are two very different things. Exactly like tried and convicted.

I expect to see it cropping up as stone truth before long.
