the Russians have been flying their bombers over Alaska since about 2004 when the Russian govt. got into the oil business and could afford to start fueling up there equipment.

Yrs ago during the cold war, one of my uncles was a radio operator aboard one of the nuclear subs that would go up under the Artic Ice cap and lay there for 4-6 months at a time..... ready to break through the ice and fire their missiles at the Soviet Union. It takes a special kind of sailor to be able to lay at the bottom of the sea in a tin can for months at a time. It is hard enough for the guys in the large modern subs with the space they have. I can't begin to imagine what it was like for those sailors back during WWII.

Subs & bombers weren't built for big guys like me. I would have a hard time just getting through a hatch.

Who ever said the cold war stopped?? Communisum isn't like a light switch. Hell Putin is still part of the old guard, and has his finger on the button. Your probably right about what would happen in the middle east, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if CCCP threw the first punch.

I'm not in your "camp" Reddog1, but am not dumb enough to dismiss it all as "just another isolated incident". Our Pres has no spine and they know it, so they are going to press their advantage and see what they can get away with. Then if we get a president with a little bit of spine, they will already know what our capabilities are.

Just letting us know that they're still around - so we're aware that if we get involved in Syria and cause any threat to their Naval base there, things might get nasty. I'm sure we'd do the same.

Can't argue with that, I guess maybe its just that we are too blind to see that while our .Gov and the U.S. populace as a whole acts like it's all good, other countries are ramping up for the inevitable.
