Is it just me, or did someone restart the cold war?

Exactly. I get a kick out of watching Americans throw fits over other countries doing exactly what we do. But our gummint are the righteous ones, starting conflicts in every country that we don't (yet) control (or the ones Israel doesn't like - cough, Iran, cough), or that doesn't have a central bank tied to ours/England's.

Thats where a 2nd cold war may be the answer. Cold Wars are always by proxy, the main powers staying out of each other's direct path because of mutually assured destruction (either via matched might, matched economic power, or nuclear strike). Look at all those countries USSR and USA meddled in from the 50s through the late 80s. Most have developed nuclear capabilities. A second cold war wont be 2 sides, it will be multi point, and unless we are going to start proxy wars is some backwoods, stone throwing nation, we dont have much options without fear of severe blowback.

A second cold war could mean one of two things, more peace than we have seen in our lifetime, or global nuclear apocalypse.

Ummmm...Iran and Syria

The drumbeaters and mouth breathers in DC already want to get more involved in Syria and attack Iran (both of whom are backed by China and Russia). Cough...McCain...cough...Santorum...cough.

Both have possible, if not already existent, nuclear capabilities.

A new cold war will also mean a mini cold war between muslim states as they vie for power within the islamic state.

*IF* those nations have WMD capabilities, it serves as a big "DONT F* WITH US" button. The days of globocop are quickly running out.

Keep in mind, the reason it didnt work in Iraq is there were none. :)

I have a Marine friend who would disagree with you. He says he saw ICBMs while he was in Iraq.
But who knows what he really saw.

Seems like I've read that Iran, Syria, and Cuba - IIRC - are the last holdouts with their own, disconnected-from-the-rest-of-the-world central banks. A couple of the previous ones were Iraq and Libya. If this is actually true, is it just a coincidence that they are the ones with a bullseye on them?

I don't think it's that easy; China is doing a pretty good job of hiding the fact that they are also about to take a huge, economic dump. They can call in whatever they want, but when everyone's currency is worth next to nothing, we'll all have bigger things to worry about.

This man has got it.

The Euro is about to dissolve. Not 'about to' as in sometime in the next 5 - 10 years. Like the next 6 - 8 months. Talk about kicking off some wild stuff.
