So according to Damon Lane a blast of Arctic air is going to be hitting Oklahoma in about 2 weeks. They are predicting temps to be 40 degrees below normal meaning lows around -15

.....So, what is this image above telling me? This map shows the temperature departure from normal. The purple shading, which is over Oklahoma, means temperatures about 40 degrees below normal on January 17th at 6 a.m. Just for fun, if we did the math, this would mean that Oklahoma City that morning would have a morning low temperature of about 15 degrees below zero. That would almost be a record low for the city as the coldest temperature ever in OKC is -17.

Do I believe this? It's tough to believe that exact number there although anything is possible. I do see there being cold air moving into America in about 2 weeks and yes I do see it being the type that is or Arctic origin, which is meteorology lingo means "very cold".

Going by the accuracy of the last 4-5 weeks, this means it will be in the 70s.

I looked up the long term forecasts on the NWS site right before Xmas and it said that the temps were going to be significantly warmer than normal.

Weather like that makes us busy. Free tip... go get your battery tested now. A car battery in marginal condition will perform just fine now, and be a doorstop below 10 degrees. I know what I 'm talking about. Test your antifreeze, too.

12 years ago me and my exwife moved to Iowa from northern California. When we got there we were more than ready for the snow as we usually recieved tons of snow where we lived at up in the Sierras we just were not prepared for the ultra cold temps at all as both of us had grown up our first 18 years in southern California. 5 years ago I moved to Oklahoma permanently even though I still go back and forth between all 3 states.

In Iowa so far the coldest winter night that I can ever remember has been like -30F, and the coldest I can remember in Oklahoma since Ive been out here has been a few below zeros I think. To me it really doesnt seem any colder at -30 than zero, cold is cold to me when it gets below freezing.

In Iowa I learned how to properly layer my clothing, have good battery chargers for my vehicles, etc. One thing I miss about my small open space A-frame cabin up in NorCal is my wood pellet stove. We have a nice new badboy central heat/AC system here at our house in Oklahoma that heats quite a bit of floorspace but that little pellet stove totally blasts that cabin out and its affordable too. In Iowa we bought a farm with a big old 3 story farmhouse that we planned to restore but that first winter there we almost froze to death in that creaky old house with no fireplaces and just an old beatup barely running antiquated heating system that was located in the basement. We just closed off the top 2 floors and wore alot of clothes. The ex is still there but she has central and fireplaces now.
