This will soon be put to the test as the US ramps up hostilities in Ukraine with the inten of attacking Russia. As General Montgomery stated... "Rule 1, on page I of the book of war, is: "Do not march on Moscow". Various people have tried it, Napoleon and Hitler, and it is no good."

You guys sound like once we help them, buy them, or whatever they should stay loyal forever. That does not happen when dealing with real people. Not in the mid-east, Asia, Europe, or even in the US. Things are changing all the time. You do the best you can at the time and hope, that is it. To expect anything else is fantasy and not a very bright one at that.

RickN has a valid point and nobody seems to want to acknowledge that. But for those that want to "stay out of everybody's business" I would ask you this. If you are actually paying attention to the spread of radical islam, just what do you think is going to happen when they take over Pakistan and/or India? If you think it won't happen you really need to pull your head out, their spread is nothing short of a "geographical explosion". So while it would be the easiest and most desirable thing to do, and just let them do what they will because it's not here afterall, what would you say when they get ahold of all those nukes? Will you want to send our boys over to take them back? Same question applies to Iran.

There's not a chance in hell that they'll take over India, and if they take over Pakistan (also unlikely), India will do something about it. They're not real hot on Pakistan in the first place, and they're certainly not going to be OK with a bunch of bat-sh*t fruitcake nutjobs having access to nukes just across the frontier.

So how are they going to stop them from taking over Pakistan, a lot of which they already control?
Bombing? Winning their hearts and minds?

Their ability to inflict terror on the urban areas of Pakistan no more indicates control over Pakistan than the 9/11 attacks indicated that Al Quaida had control over the US. They have influence in the tribal areas, but that doesn't equate to control over the majority of Pakistanis.

As to what India will do, I have no idea, but their history indicates that they will pretty much do anything but stand idly by.

Are you sure?
From Wiki:
The state religion in Pakistan is Islam, which is practiced by about 95-98% of the 195,343,000[1][2] people of the nation.

The Muslim population of India is the third largest in the world. India also has the third largest Shia population in the world and being the cradle of the Ahmadiyya Islam, it is one of very few countries in the world with at least 1 million Ahmadi Muslims. The shrines of some of the most famous saints of Sufism, like Moinuddin Chishti and Nizamuddin Auliya, are found in India, and attract visitors from all over the world.[5] India is also home to some of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture, such as the Taj Mahal and the Qutb Minar. Civil matters related to the community are dealt with by the Muslim Personal Law,[6] and constitutional amendments in 1985 established its primacy in family matters.[7]

I'm pretty sure the 800 million Hindus are not going to allow a takeover by a handful of Islamic nutjobs, yes.

The population of Iraq is 33.42 million.

ICIS has 32,000 fighters according to our own CIA.

Recent Kurd estimates say its over 200,000, so yes, considering how they have basically taken 2/3 of Iraq prisoner, Pakistan will likely fall with the tribes in the frontier joining the fight when it does come to Pakistan.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-of-200000-claims-kurdish-leader-9863418.html

Saudi Arabia with all its money, and modern arms is scared enough of ICIS to build a 600 mile fence.

Meanwhile the Iraq army that we "trained", just laid down and gave up. The Kurds are the only effective force fighting for Iraq as we speak.

The Afgan army we "trained" has laid down for the most part.

The Vietnamese Army that we "trained" laid down the day we left.

They also have influence among the government and military. That is the major reason Pakistan has to be careful fighting them, they can not be sure who to trust.

The population of Iraq is ...
...completely and utterly irrelevant. Iraq is not India, not by a long shot. The Indian Hindus and Pakistani Muslims have been at odds since before India and Pakistan were independent countries; what, on God's green Earth, could lead a reasonable person to think that radical Islamists could ever get enough of a foothold in India to make a lick of difference? It's like worrying about the Hare Krishnas taking over the US...

ETA: To be clear, I haven't said anything about those goat lovers in ISIL. I just think that the notion of radical Islamists taking over India is incredibly far-fetched...
