Just learned my wife's aunt passed away and left her a Subaru (2025)

Sorry to hear of your loss. As far as the Subaru, maintain as any other vehicle like normal until about 80k-90k then sell it. We researched these pretty hard a couple years ago. Large mechanical issues start going wrong in the 100k-120k mile range it appears. Can't tell you how many of those we found in the 100k-150k mile range that either had a new engine and/or transmission or was sitting broke down that needed a new engine and/or transmission. Unless the 25' is a completely new mechanical platform, those findings were pretty consistent with the 2015 to 2021 models.

Subaru has always intrigued me. They seem to market to only granola eaters, but the vehicle might appeal to a lot bigger audience. They seem to forgoe a lot of the buttons and electronic gimmicks, and I like that.

They always get good safety marks. And you see them with really high miles. Owners usually review positively. But many do seem to have had some major issues over their life as noted above. If I have to put a motor or transmission in something to get 200k miles, I'm not going to be impressed with it.

Rotate your tires at about 7500 miles (free at discount tire). Also with AWD if you have one tire go out with more than Xmm of wear you need to replace all four tires. If one tire has a certain amount of more tread than the other tires it will cause unusual wear on the transmission. Synthetic oil I change about 5-6000 miles. Manual and service interval can be downloaded just google 2025 Forrester manual. I've been a non-granola eating, gun owning Subaru owner since 1985.

Actually you only need to replace then in pairs. They are automatically changing the front/back torque inputs all the time anyway, so only matched on each end of the car is necessary.

I buy and sell Subarus, and if someone changes the oil regularly and use OE spec oil filters as Shadowrider mentioned, the engines are amazing and last over 200K miles. There are quirks like the early 2013-2015 engines burning oil and leaking from the cam bearing caps and occasional coolant crossover o-ring leaks. CVT transmissions(TR580)are more likely to fail than engine, but if you change the fluid with oem fluids every 60K and ease into the throttle until the car is warmed up you shouldn't have any problems. Not very many AWD cars/ SUVs get 30 mpg like Subarus do.

Im not to far from a dealer, so I'll likely have regular oil&filter done there along with tire rotation, trans fluid, etc.
