Just mailed the most important documents in my life,,,
My signed/sealed contract to retire with pension from Oklahoma Teachers Retirement System.

16.5 years of eligibility gets me a very decent pension check,,,
For the rest of my life.

That OTRS pension check along with my Social Security check,,,
Gives me a comfortable existence in my remaining time on this planet.

I MADE IT!

Last day of work is 08 Jan 2021

Congrats, my retirement date came and went on the 1st of this month. I didnt put in my papers yet cause I am too young for SS and had planned to step into a new career and double dip for another 10 years but the economy sank so I'll wait and see what happens in 6 month. I'm on the 30 year mark and ready.

Good for you! I'm sure there were many times that you wondered if you'd make it but you did! Welcome to the retirement club, no days off, work from he time you go outside until dusk and you wonder how did you ever have time for work with all the tasks you have...

I retired on the OTRS last January (on staff at a university); same situation, Teacher pension + SS = reasonably comfortable lifestyle.
I'm loving it.

Today is 284 days past when I was initially going to call it a career,,,
But when the Covid thing sprang up I decided to keep my paycheck and good health insurance for a bit longer.

Besides, that was almost a full year more of banking my Social Security checks,,,
That provided a very welcome boost to the old savings account.
When I came back home to Oklahoma in 1996,,,
I had a minimum wage job waiting, a paid for beater of a pick-up truck, 2 clean credit cards, and no debt whatsoever.

After a year that minimum wage job had grown substantially,,,
But I woke up one morning thinking:

"You're doing okay now Aarond, but you're 46 and have no real future.
You need a career that will give you some security in your old age"

So I enrolled at OK State,,,
Got a student worker job there,,,
Got my BS and my teaching credentials,,,
I had originally planned to be a Career Tech Teacher.

But the university offered me a position as a Graduate Assistant which would finance a Master's degree,,,
Then I was able to parlay that Graduate Assistant position into a full-time job that resulted in where I am now.

My friends, I swear that the Fairy Godmother Department was looking out for me,,,
She put opportunities in front of me that I never dreamed could happen,,,
I'm absolutely giddy that this goal is about to be achieved.
