I wish I could take decent pics....

The only pic I have I have ever tried to set up and do right, and the light cooperated, was this one.

I tried to do it again with this pic, but the sun had come out from behind the clouds, and I didn't get things placed well either.

Anywhere you suggest I go to learn more? My camera is just a Nikon Coolpix L110, so maybe that limits me, or I just don't fully know how to use it, or both.
