I am having LASIK soon. I have had a few people recommend TLC (the laser center) and a few people recommend Dr. Belardo. Those are the only 2 I ever had recommended to me. I went to TLC and set up an appointment for the surgery, and then realized that Belardo wasn't at TLC. For some reason I always associated the two as one. So, now I need to decide where to go. I would just stay at TLC, but Belardo is about $1200 cheaper. I only get 1 touch up instead of lifetime like I would at TLC, but my cornea is so thin I am pretty sure I'll only get 1 touchup anyways, so that is not a huge concern.

So the question is this: I am not a cheapskate on this issue. I want the best money can buy so am not bargain shopping, so with that in mind should I switch to the cheaper Belardo? Any personal stories are appreciated, and don't forget to vote!

Can I vote based of of PRK not LASIK? The Air Force did mine back in '04....the AF was fairly picky and only picked folks whose eyes were 'perfect candidates'. They rejected people who would make it through civilian screening. I went through it and came out with 20/15 and zero complications.

A co-worker didn't make the cut for the AF surgery and went with a civilian doctor on his own dime...he took the cheaper route and one eye came out dramatically different than the other. Since he bought the cut-rate plan he had to pay for redo surgery on the bad eye.

Don't cut corners...go with the plan that has a good track record, some guarantees, and excellent no-cost follow-up and then get a second opinion. You only have one set of eyes.

I had 2 RK procedures and 1 Lasik procedure at the Clear Sight Center. Dr Gary Wilson. It was done 1997-2000. I would not recomend them at all. Their lack of follow up concern was really bad. My wife had the Crystal Lens implants done by Dr Belardo about 6 years ago. I was there for every pre op, op, and post op visit and was really impressed with Dr Belardo and his staff. I'm probably going to have the lense implants too and will definately have Dr Belardo do them.

I had the bladeless LASIK at TLC and it was worth every cent x2. Just be aware that while lifetime touch up thing sounds wonderful, but if you fail to perform all the small print requirements you don't get the free touch ups. The way I looked at it was like this; Ya TLC is expensive vs others, but I should probably not take the cheaper option when it comes to vision for the rest of my life. I mean what's $1200 spread out over the rest of your life? That was how I decided on TLC.

Mine were done by Dr Wilson at TLC. I had the procedure done in 2004. I was 20-400 near sighted. In other words I was blind as a bat and could not see 5 feet in front of me. After the surgery I was 20-20, few months later when I went back for a recheck, I was 20-12 which of course is better then 20-20. I have had no issues at all but my eyes are more sensitive to bright light and Im very depended on sunglasses. Trade off is well worth it. I buy all Polarized sunglasses and everything is fine. I also did the blade-less.

Cockrell's in Stillwater. Dr. Able from Tulsa comes over and does the surgeries. Everything is up front. No hidden cost. No fine print. A friend of mine went the cheaper route and it actually cost him more in the long run. I've had mine done now for quite a few years and had one touch up in one eye. No hassle and didn't cost one penny.
