I know this is an old thread but what would a Ruger .308 mini offer that a M1A doesn't have? I'm pretty sure Ruger would make it have a proprietary $45 magazine as well.

Here's what I'm hoping, a much lower price tag and from my OP:

3.) A Mini chambered in .308 Win./7.62 x51 NATO that accepts AR10 magazines(i.e. pmags like the SR762).

Would they even call it a "Mini" at that point? The original was called a "Mini-14" because it was basically an M-14 chambered for a less powerful cartridge. If they made a .308, they would just be coming full circle and making their version of an M-14. Might as well just call it a SR-14 at that point. I do think they could differentiate themselves from the Springfield M1A by offering features SAI has gotten lax on, such as offering a chrome lined (or even a nitrided) barrel. Using a different magazine would be a gamble... it could help differentiate the product further, but it might also work against them because some of their potential market would be M-14 enthusiasts who would want their existing mags to be compatible with their new rifle.
