Saw this on Greybeards forum this morning. I blew coffe out of my nose. Maybe I'm a little wierd. :saywhat:

Speaking of bacon and dog poop, one fellow wrote a letter to the editor describing his cure for dog poop on his lawn. He didn't own a dog and understandably hated cleaning up after other people's dogs. He said after cooking his breakfast he carried the frying pan out to the lawn and poured bacon grease on every pile of dog poop, then other dogs would eat it, problem solved. Have to admire his ingenuity but hated to think if my dog ate that crap.

One of those? So why don't they use Cocker Spaniels for guard dogs, again?

Guy in the OP bragging is an ahole, but as far as I've heard where I live here in the county - was well within his rights. Rogers County Deputy told one of my neighbors once that if the dog is on your property, you can shoot it. But he told him "you'd better kill it, because if it makes it back to it's own yard, you're in big trouble". He was talking specifically about some Rotts his neighbor across the road had that were coming up near his house, and he had two small children.

I'm in the opinion category that the numbnuts on facebook has issues; as do others that would shoot before telling the neighbor that their dog is out again. I like in the country too and, to date, the dogs that have visited our place have been friendly. And the list of visiting dogs hits a lot of "bad" breeds...even a pit. As for using a cocker spaniel for a guard dog. I did in the mid 1980's. His name was Big John; if you visited the house without permission he would eat your liver gaining access from the hole between your back pockets. I now have a pit. He's one of the nicest dogs I've ever had but he'll eat you if you jump my fence. If I introduce you to him you have a real problem...he will want you to throw his soccer ball. Oh, he never gets tired!

Yep. We have dumpers around our place in the country.

Yeah, it's particularly cruel to dump a pet. We help with an ongoing effort to catch and neuter at several 'dump sites' around Norman. The worst time of year is when OU recesses for the summer. Lots of students dump their pets before they go home. I'm kind of reluctant to admit it because some people don't understand, but it's heartbreaking.

You give people too much credit. They understand. They just don't care. And you are right. It is heartbreaking. Sometimes the kindest thing to do is to shoot them. I've shot my fair share of dumped animals in my lifetime. I didn't take pleasure in it a single, solitary time. In fact, more often than not, I was amazed I didn't miss my eyes were so watered over.
