what is causing this? the shooting in CT? didn't happen last major shooting, not likely to happen now. Hunker down with what you own, if not you are gonna be into those guns and ammo purchased right now deeper than you need to be. Think $120 glock mag that was worth $12 when the ban collapsed. Don't believe the hype.

I think it's a combo of having a lame-duck Obama in office combined with the shooting and his 2nd speech that basically left plenty of clues that he is planning on sponsoring some legislation or passing an executive order and the general reaction of Cerberus/Dick's/Cabelas/Other retail stores pulling ARs or Bushmasters (I've heard rumors, but nothing solid to be honest).

Then CTD stopped selling firearms and hiked prices so that's what it took to poke the first scared wilder-beast and now there's a stampede.

I'm personally thankful for the gouge. Now I can finally take my mind off of buying guns/ammo and focus on this knife habbit :hey3:

It probably has something to do with JB switching to the republican party.

I think alot of this is a reaction to several things converging at once.
First, Obummer says in the debates that he would sign an AWB.
Then the shootings. Several in a row using AR style rifles.
Dems have had various "gun control legislation" packages canned and ready for an incident.
Then, He says something to the effect that "America has to change" and "I will use every tool of my office to affect some form of gun control" (not exact quotes)
And alot of people remember what happened in '86 and '94 when no one thought "IT" could happen.
Folks got caught short handed. Couldn't get replacement mags or extra mags without a HUGE price tag.
You couldn't even get ruger 10/22 mags without paying out the ying-yang.
Then the panic sets in and it is infective.

Two guys I overheard at the counter today basically said "I made a mistake last time this happened and didn't buy. I'm not going to make that mistake again."

Sort of a gun-control perfect storm.

On GunBroker right now, I see a RRA stripped lower, started at $99, now at $255 with 11 bids. Goes off in an hour and 45 mins.

S&W M&P15 stripped lower at $235 - 2 days left

DEL-TON stripped lower with 25 mins to go at $240!

Another RRA put up yesterday in a 24-hr auction with a BIN of $299.

A New Frontier at $134 with 5 hours to go, another RRA currently bidding at $205 with 1 day left....

Wow, glad I bought the 5 I wanted a while back. Although I wanted to get a higher-end one, it may be outta my reach soon. :(
