I'm on the fence about the 10 BAS. Too many whiz-bang gizmos and gadgets, IMO.

I'd like to shoot one side by side w/ my vanilla 10FP.

lol, since when has an adjustable comb and length of pull been a "whiz-bang gadget"? and as far as the rail, it mounts the same as any other type of rail, and as you can see on my rifle, is easily replaced.

that being said... I am coming back to Oklahoma for this weekend, and I will be picking up my Savage 10FP .308 in HS Precision stock and doing a side by side comparison at the range. it only has 40 rounds down the tube, so it should be a fair comparison. but from what I can tell already, the 10bas outshoots it.

Considering the price difference, it better shoot better. A lot better.

A 9-round detachable magazine, 2 extra feet of unused rail, a proprietary muzzle device, a pistol grip with shelf....this is all stuff I can live without.

How's the weight comparison?

I like that 10FP in the HS Precision...will await your range report.

I can't imagine that has anything to do with the stock seeing as how you've got that FP in an HS alum bedded stock.

I can't imagine that the BAS is that much better than a Police model in the way of chamber tolerances or crown (maybe crown because of the compensator?) or rifling for that matter. That's interesting.

I'd be interested in going out and shooting with you guys sometime though - I'd love to see that BAS in action.

Where can I find one of those cheek pad/shell carriers like that?

Eagle makes them - its called a stock-pack.

There are several others to choose from (this was just posted on snipers hide, so I'm echoing some of the answers from there to here):

This place has the Eagle packs:

SoTech makes a good one:

BALS' is pretty cool too:

Tac Ready's is bigger:

Spec Ops is also large:
