Molly and Gus.
Mine knows without any uncertainty that there are Gifts under that tree for him! Cannot wrap one tight enough that his nose would miss! He never lays there, but this is his first Christmas in this home. And he would fall asleep by the trees in past Christmases at our other homes. He does not lay there even if the tree is there, UNTILL a gift for him gets under it. He doesn’t bother them at all, but will walk by and sniff and when he lays down by them he stares at them till he falls asleep.
He's got a look about him that would tell me not to get my nose 2 inches closer.. lol
Oh he has pushed the limits the last 2 years. He is 4 now and so much more behaved. But he will actually plant his nose on his gifts but that is it. Has never torn one yet in 3 years. First year was a crap shoot! He went straight to opening them when he and I got up earlier than the lady! I went to turn the coffee pot on and he had two tore to hell, that I had no knowledge of being there. She thought he wouldn’t bother them! So his learning started at 2nd Christmas. He is a quick learner!
Yes Sir. He’s around 65 lbs. He’s a great dog.
We got Buddy because the people who bought him was told he was a mini. They paid some big mo eye for him and when the vet told them he was going to be a full size, they tossed his ass out in a ditch to die.
We haven’t had a dog in many years. We have had mostly red and blue healers on our farms as working dogs, all my young life and adult life. Have had some brilliant healers over the years. Never owned a Sheppard, and this one is in the top three as far as smarts! He learns fast and what a freaking memory he has. And protective as any dog I have ever had.
One quick story on his smarts. He has a favorite outside toy a red football. He carries a lot. We can be out in one of the pastures and he will lay it down, we will be back up to house and he leaves it a 1/8th mile away in a pasture. I’ll ask later that day and even the next day “where is your ball” he will start looking and then take off and come back with it from down in the pasture where he leaves it.
