If things go south, many of the currently oblivious will be at the forefront of the panicked mob....I hope we do not see this and the oblivious are never proven wrong.

Not what I said or who I was referring to and you know it.

You said we spread it simply by exhaling . . . therefore we should all wear cloth masks when we're out. But we don't know if that's actually legit or enough to transmit it to the extent that folks get sick.

Docs and nurses are wearing them because of having a much higher risk of exposure than the rest of us when we're in Walmart.

We do know that coronavirus can be spread by exhaling. But I haven't seen any real world testing that actually quantifies it. Laboratory testing under controlled circumstances there are plenty of. The case that really caught my attention happened in Mount Vernon, Washinton. Article attached.

56 choir members attended practice. Where they were singing, exhaling forcefully. 45 of those in attendance were diagnosed with Covid-19. At least 2 of them died. Tracing confirmed choir practice as the common denominator.

But how does that compare to walking down the aisle of a Walmart or watching your grandkids play at the park?

Just something to think about.

There's a saying I heard a long time ago that stuck with me. "People aren't against you, they are for themselves" and this situation really proves that. Nearly every person I talk to about COVID starts by looking at it from THEM outward to family, friends, acquaintences, all the way down to the general public. Last numbers I saw for OK was running a 5.8% fatality rate, but I bet people wouldn't want to name 6 names out loud per 100 people they know that they want to mark for death.

It's so easy to say open it up and let the weak die, because largely, we are biased that nothing bad will happen to us or our circle, and that our needs trump the mystery people we don't know. IMHO it's the same thing as why people don't plan for a disaster ("Oh that could never happen to ME!").

I've also noticed a trend that most people clamoring to open everything up are the ones with financial struggles rather than ideological ones. That leads me to really wonder how this whole thing would have played out if we had the same safety nets for vulnerable individuals that we do for MegaCorps.

I would look for that 5-6 who are risk out of that 100 and tell them to keep their ass at home. To have their groceries delivered and sanitized before handling them. And I am not having financial struggles, at least not yet, as the wife and I have put back money in savings. However, if the economy goes the same way it did in 1929, only the extremely wealthy will be able to make do.

Hiding your head in the sand and saying it will be ok won't be an acceptable response here soon. The economy is on the verge of going off a cliff while people are chanting kumbaya and yelling "think of those that could die!". Think about those that will die if our economy gets shot. Think of those who are already at risk for poor nutrition, those who were already struggling to pay their bills and buy groceries. But I guess they are worth less than those who are elderly or medically at risk right? Because right now that is exactly what you are saying. Screw the economy, forget about all those poor dweebs who lost their jobs, forget about all those business owners who saw their dreams (and for most their life savings) just go up in smoke. We gotta think of those at risk people and everyone else just has to suck it up and go hungry, or get evicted, have their car repo'd, etc.

Thats the same argument anti-gunners use. Think of the children! Think of those killed by gun violence! We must restrict everyone's right because THINK OF THEM!

Not to mention I'm watching way more than 5 or 6 friends who have lost their job stress out over what they are going to do next. Several of them have already spent their stimulus money to pay for food, rent, etc and waiting for UE to kick in. I've watched several others lose their business. I've seen way more people affected by the economic fallout than I have by the virus itself.

You have a high risk of exposure to many things when you go to Walmart, mostly visual.

And I hate that for everyone . . . hopefully things will improve over the next couple of weeks for them. Or sooner.
