An M16A1/AR15A1 with a brass deflector is an M16A1E1 (C7 in the great white north). Canucks had them and they were transitional on guns in the 80's (in reading up on them they were on some rifles in Mogadishu), so not Vietnam era.
Then they transmogrified into M16A1E2s or something which then became M16A2s.
You see the M16A1 upper with brass deflector a lot on DMPS and Bushmaster guns from the 80's and 90's.

@L.C. 's upper would be an M16A1E1.

Seems the A1 uppers have just about dried up and if you do find one if it's a Colt or a Anchor Harvey split A upper They are $300.. and up I was lucky enough to find a DPMS A1 AR-15 rifle at a descent price that had the factory DPMS Anchor Harvey splat A upper still on it. The lower is a DPMS made in St. Cloud, MN./ No longer Manufactured. You can still find some of the lowers made in Huntsville AL. By Remington.
I added a Aluminun 2 position buttstock/A1 Grip/Colt 6 hole handguards/RRA Lightweight Barrel CL...
Brownells has some Retro stuff you may check out.

That looks very similar to my first AR I ever bought back in 2006.
