I had a Ruger 7mag with a brake. I didn't think it was that bad, but anybody on the firing line hated it.

5 pages in and nobody has had the pleasure of a Ruger Blackhawk .30 Carbine?
I was in the end lane (8), leisurely shooting my Single Six. 2 20-somethings set up in the next lane (7). 1st jackwad has a Desert Eagle .50AE. He let's loose with rounds. Steps back and they both are laughing.
I shoot another cylinder of .22 LR. 2nd jackwad steps up and fires a BFR .45-70.
OK, that's how you want to play, I load up the .30 Carbine, reach as far forward of the divider as I can and angle to shoot their target. First shot, shooter in lane 1 yells, "WTH was THAT?" I hear behind me, ".30 Carbine"
The 2 jackwads were packing to leave. I picked up my Single Six and continued on.

I remember when I first donned a gun and badge, I didn't own a pistol, so I had borrowed a Smith and Wesson 3 inch model 13 from my uncle. He gave me a box of ammo as well (158gr SJHP) and told me he had never even fired it and suggested that I do before I hit the streets.

I had never fired a .357 magnum before. I shot my father's old Victory model .38 special countless times without ear protection and figured the .357 magnum's report was about the same as the .38 special's.

Boy was I wrong.

I couldn't hear for about 3 days after that.

.357 Mag pistol is on my do not ever buy list. The report is so loud that even double hearing protection is uncomfortable to me, and I have major hearing loss.
