George Fennel (guy in video, and designer of product) is a bit of a grump, but he's likely the most knowledgable person in the field. Those lube testing machines are fairly popular, so you might be able to run your own test if you ask around. That being said, the vegetable oil lubes (e.g., Frog Lube) have never faired as well as others when it comes to lubrication, especially when you start mixing them with other chemicals (e.g., gun firing residue).

I've got a bottle of Militec which will outlive me. It's very good stuff. If I were ever to run out, though, I'd just use Mobil One.

Well after a little more research and contemplation ive decided not to go with frog lube (thanks shootin 4 fun and yukonglocker). I ended up going with the wd-40 specialist ltci. I was mainly looking for something to prevent corrosion better than ballistol and it fit the bill best. $12 at Walmart for 6.5 oz and every article and video I saw showed it to perform very well in corrosion tests. Ill just keep using my grease and whatever oil is closest to lube with but the final wipe down will be with the wd-40. Smells excellent also.

Here's a good way to get synthetic. From your local John Deere dealer.

I used Frog Lube like the manufacturer suggested and tried 2 different times to make the stuff work.
This was on a Phoenix 22 auto pistol and an old semi auto .22 rifle.

Stuff seemed fine until it got to winter time with frost on the ground..Guns kept jamming .. these were not dusty and the fix was to get out the WD40
spray them down and blow them out with air and wipe it all down with clean paper towels. Been shot many times hot and cold no jams.

Frog lube reminds me of TC1000 bore butter..don't like that stuff either. Creates a crud ring. Yes that is correct. I quit using it and no more crud rings in my Muzzleloaders.
