This thing is so freaking beautiful. The pictures really don't do it justice.

And yeah, this thing is solid copper:

XP-E (notice the plastic aligning things on all four sides. Looks like a 4Sevens):

It was a lot smaller than I had expected, even with it being a AAA light.

It's gorgeously machined. I can't wait for the patina to start in. My only gripe is that the threads were dirty when I got it and it was mode skipping worse than any light I've ever had. But after I deep cleaned them and re-lubed them it was working a whole lot better, though it still skips every once in a while. I have a feeling that with use they will smooth out.

Output is great. The low is low and the high is very respectably bright. Runtime is great for the output. It cost me $45 inc. shipping from CountyComm.com (the only place you can buy it from). Maratac makes four other AAA models, all featuring the same body: two stainless steel models (a satin and a polished model) and two aluminum models (black anodized and "natural" anodized).

Overall I'd say it was definitely worth the money. And there's definitely something cool about a solid copper light.

Now that I've had a few days with this light I can honestly say that I love it. Here's a few pics of its tarnish progression.

Day 1, fresh out of the package:

Day 2 looked about the same, so here's day 3:

And here's a macro of day 3. The laser etched lettering was the first to begin tarnishing:

Day 5:

Sorry, didn't have my macro setup with me, so here's a close cropped shot of the logo:

Neat light. If it turns green eventually, that will be really cool. I'm guessing that's what it's supposed to do.

If you want it to patina faster just dilute a lot of salt in a bottle of water and spray the light and leave it over night. After a couple of treatments it will look really nice. Needs to be free of oil and debris to keep it from getting blotchy looking

I thought about that, but I kind of want to see where it'll go naturally. And after it gets sufficiently tarnished I'm going to polish it up again on the smooth surfaces but not any sunken surfaces to create a nice contrasting look.

Haha, some guy on CPF claimed peeing on it also does wonders to the tarnish… :anyone:
