He's a hypocrite because he campaigns for gun control, yet buys a gun.

I guess that makes everyone here a hypocrite because they advocate gun ownership, yet rail against a man that buys a gun.

Can't have it both ways.

Bad use of logic here ^^^^ - Capt (Ret) Kelly is called a hypocrite because he very publicly campaigns in favor of significant restrictions on gun ownership, in particular on so-called assault weapons like the AR-15. He is subsequently found to have purchased a handgun and an AR-15. When confronted he then, and only after being publicly called out, gives what seems to be a less than credible explanation about buying it only to prove how simple such a purchase is and announces his intent to turn the weapon over to the Tucson PD.
On this board in this thread many people say they support his right to buy weapons but consider his actions hypocritical - so who is being logical, consistent, and non-hypocritical (even if angry) and who seems to be doing one thing in public (very prominently) while doing a very different thing in private?

Mark E. Kelly, gun-control proponent and husband to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, recently purchased an AR-15 (an "assault weapon," he called it)—which he now says he intended as an illustration of the need for more stringent gun laws.

Unless he has some criminal history, I'm failing to make the connection on how a law abiding citizen buying a gun which is legal to own illustrates the need for more stringent gun laws. If he has a criminal past he's not revealing, that would make more sense.
