"The President has put in place an organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life," Representative Maxine Waters told Roland Martin on Monday. "That's going to be very, very powerful," Waters said. "That database will have information about everything on every individual on ways that it's never been done before and whoever runs for President on the Democratic ticket has to deal with that. They're going to go down with that database and the concerns of those people because they can't get around it. And he's [President Obama] been very smart. It's very powerful what he's leaving in place."

Makes all these scandals make more sense. IRS stealing medical records, the targeting of conservative groups, spying on the media, threatening whistle blowers.....

I have been told by people in the Management Information Systems field that every communication in this country is permanently stored. Data storage is cheap and I assume some govt agency (NSA) is doing this as part of anti-terrorism efforts. When someone becomes suspect the records can be searched for that person.

The danger to liberty is that as the cost of data mining comes down, the temptation will be for the govt to sort and examine the communications record for the entire population.

Every day we get closer to 1984. When I'm cynical I feel like there's no way to stop it. I guess I'm not alone. There are more dystopian themed movies this year than there has been in decades.

She wasn't talking about a government agency. She was talking about a political organization put together by Obama to help democrats win elections. Kinda like the organization the IRS was giving information about tea party groups to.
