Exactly how difficult would it be to file off some stupid stamp on my firing pin? Sounds like a ten minute task, give or take 30 seconds. Sounds even less reliable as the rest of forensic ballistics.

"Well, the firing pin impression doesn't match the casing at the crime scene."
"So he didn't do it?"
"Well, either that or he swapped or modified his firing pin."
"What about the barreling?"
"It doesn't match either."
"So he didn't do it?"
"Either that or he cleaned the gun. Or hit the barrel with a steel brush. Or used a silencer. Or..."
"Okay, well what about the extractor."
"Well it didn't match."
"Sounds like he didn't do it."
"Well maybe, but maybe he just ground down the extractor. Or replaced it with a new one."
"Ugh. What about the camera?"
"It distinctly shows the guy shooting the other guy."
"So he did it?"
"Yes."
"Why'd you waste your time on that other stuff?"
"You told me to."

All joking aside, I know that forensic ballistics have been used to solve crimes, but anyone who understands the science and has the proper tools ($20 worth of stuff) can dodge it.
