The rear sights with the wings are for Jap Arisakas. The extra wings fold out to help you lead the plane. They are not available anywhere. I've been looking for a set for years. If you want to get rid of them let me know please. The sights are fairly common, it's the wings that can't be found, they break easily.
As for turning rust back into metal, try this (don't laugh, it really works) coat them in a thin layer of peanut butter overnight. wipe them off and be amazed.

That's cool on the Arisaka sights and I bet we can figure something out on them. I know that most of this stuff is K98 parts, but there were a few things that I just had no clue on and those winged sights were one of them.

OK... I have a couple of parts all slathered up in Jif (because it's what choosy moms choose, that and I didn't think the Peter Pan extra crunchy would work as well). We'll see how they look come sunrise.

wow... I should have done before and after photos. 'point and laugh', the PB thing really did get the majority of the rust gone... I just don't know where it went lol? How exactly does that work?

I cleaned off the peanut butter from the couple of parts that I did and have them sitting in an oil bath right now. I figure I'll take a nylon bristle brush to them while still submurged a little later and see how they look after that.

Seriously great shooting man. I'm assuming you won the match with those results. One of these days when I get around to owning another bolt action milsurp, I'll have to come over for it. I'm down to just a Garand these days and it's glassed to boot so I don't get to use it much for anything military competition related.

I discovered the trick entirely by accident while eating a PB sandwich and working on an old barrel, some PB spilled on it and the magic was discovered. I don't know how it works. It also repairs/hides? minor pitting on old worn blueing.
I wipe the PB off then rinse it with Hoppe's #9 solvent. Then oil. It works well on old dark bores too, spray the bore with windex, slather in the PB with a little mop, finish your sandwich and clean it out. Perhaps there is a chemist among us that can explain how it works.

I would hazard a guess it involves the oil. All I know is, since my wife thinks peanut butter makes me fat, we don't have any in our house. Finally, I have an argument which she can't refute with rationality. I'm goin' to the store.

Question,

Which one of these old rifles is the most accurate out of the box. I know most of these rifles accuracy can be improved with careful reloading. Can you buy a rifle or type of rifle that will shoot let's say 1 moa with factory or surplus ammo? Which one has the best iron sights?
